Help for CloudBackup, the Mac app that backs up your OneDrive folders to an external drive.

Write to us at office@xvision.solutions. Please include your macOS version and the CloudBackup version (under “About”) and briefly describe what happened. An excerpt from the “Log” in the app is also helpful.
Requirements
- a Mac with macOS 26 or later
- the OneDrive app for Mac, with the accounts you want to back up set up on this Mac
- an external drive formatted as APFS (in Disk Utility); “APFS (Encrypted)” is recommended
Where the backup is stored
On the destination drive, CloudBackup creates a folder named CloudBackup and inside it one folder per profile, made up of the profile name and an identifier. It contains:
Current: the current state of your files, readable as usual in the FinderVersions: replaced file versions, kept for 30, 90 or 365 days depending on the settingDeleted: archived files that were deleted in OneDrive
Files are copied without a proprietary format and can be opened without CloudBackup. Please do not change these folders by hand so that the backup catalogue stays correct.
Restoring files
Open the profile and choose a backed-up file or an earlier version under “Restore”. CloudBackup copies it to a folder of your choice, verifies the copy with a SHA-256 checksum and never overwrites existing files. Neither the source nor the backup is changed.
Why deletions need your confirmation
If a file is missing in OneDrive, CloudBackup does not remove it from the backup on its own. It appears under “Pending Deletions”, where you decide whether it is archived (moved to the Deleted folder) or deleted permanently. This way the backup also protects you against files deleted by mistake.
Files stored only in the cloud
If a file exists only in the cloud, the OneDrive app downloads it during the backup. After successful verification, CloudBackup frees up the space on your Mac again. This requires an internet connection and enough free storage on your Mac.
Offsite backup
CloudBackup backs up to a drive that is usually in the same place as your Mac. An additional offsite backup protects against theft, fire or water damage, for example a second drive kept elsewhere or an online backup service (3-2-1 rule: three copies, two media, one offsite).
Privacy and trademarks
CloudBackup collects no data and opens no internet connection. Details are in the privacy policy. CloudBackup is not affiliated with Microsoft; OneDrive is a trademark of the Microsoft group of companies.
